INSPIRED BY THE ORIGINAL HIT SONG
"W"hen Beth Thompson's only son, James, goes missing in action in
Afghanistan, she is left with her prayers, hopes, fears . . . and
letters.
Mother and son have been writing since boot camp. James writes of
his struggle to become a confident soldier and of his concern for
his young wife and their unborn child. Beth, like any mom, praises
her son's courage even as she frets for his safety.
Even after James disappears, Beth is comforted by a daily ritual of
writing him about her feelings, faith, and attempts to maintain a
normal life when nothing is really normal but the waiting.
Based on platinum-selling singer Mark Schultz's hit song "Letters
from War," this powerfully emotional and timely story reveals how
faith sustains in even the darkest of circumstances.
Charlotte is fifteen and grieving over the loss of her beautiful
mother. Her relationship with her father is put to the test as she
discovers sex, ambition and 'beauty products'. Inspired by
Euripides but with its sights set firmly on contemporary America, A
Brief History of Helen of Troy is an unsettling examination of
complacency culture and the politics of beauty.
In our ninth volume of the collected illustrative Sunday comic
pages, Arn tries his hand at being a warrior, Merlin is bewitched
by Nimue, and Tillicum and Boltar have a son named Hatha the first
interracial baby born in comics. Most of the second half of this
volume follows Gawain and Val s pilgrimage to the holy city of
Jerusalem, and Queen Aleta s return to the Misty Isles where
treacherous nobles seek her throne and her death. Also featuring a
look at Prince Valiant s 1954 escapades on both the large and small
screens by Foster scholar Brian M. Kane. As with all the previous
volumes in this highly acclaimed series, these pages are reproduced
for the first time from Foster s personal set of color engraver s
proofs, the most impeccably produced Prince Valiant series ever
produced."
This book opens with a foreword by special effects pioneer Ray
Harryhausen (The 7th Voyage of Sinbad) and a biographical essay on
Knight by William Stout (The New Dinosaurs). The autobiographical
pieces feature illustrations by Mark Schultz (Xenozoic Tales). To
round out the volume, it closes with memories from his
granddaughter Rhoda Knight Kalt and appreciations from prominent
names in the arts and sciences, from Ray Bradbury to Ian
Tattersall. Though Knight once said "No one interests me less than
Charles Knight," find out why artists such as Frank Frazetta, Mark
Hallett, Doug Henderson, Joe Kubert, Al Williamson, and Bernie
Wrightson have said that no one interests them more!
Forced into hiding by a global ecological cataclysm, humans emerge
from their underground warrens half a millennium later to discover
that the Earth has been totally transformed. All of the familiar
flora and fauna are gone, replaced by a radically altered natural
order populated by rampaging dinosaurs and strange new creatures.
It takes guts, grim determination, ingenuity and a whole lot of
luck just to survive. Told in combination with lush artwork, this
pulp-fuelled narrative is an action packed fantasy, which is also a
cautionary tale.
